I did a big thing.
I started my business in 2021, and I never thought it would grow to what it is today. In fact, I never intended it to. I started it as a hobby, a side-hustle, something to fill my time when the kids were in school. As it is, this is a popular service people are interested in, and travel several hours to get. (Rapid City, Colorado, etc.)
I am in need of space. More treatment rooms. A big, open room for an IV “bar” where my patients can sit, relax, and receive their IV infusion. Space for employees, space for more treatment options.
The search for a building was long and tedious. Turns out, the availability of buildings for business is limited, and the ones that could be an option weren’t up for sale. My husband and I looked at a LOT of different buildings, and spoke with many different people.
We finally found one that serendipitously shared a common thread between the owner and us. We all like the band 311. The address is 311 Box Butte. We used it in our negotiations. It was considered a “sign” for the seller, and she chose us as the future owners. It is the former Posh Kids clothing consignment clothing store.
There is a lot of work to do. Yet, the building is a hidden treasure, and I am in love. The more layers we peel back, the more beauty that is exposed. It also has an interesting history. It used to be a clothing store, and we found ads from the 1930s that show prices ($1.99 for shoes?!). It also has a second story above that used to function as an optometrist’s office, his name being Dr. Bauman.
There are beautiful doors with his name on them, that I plan to incorporate in the business renovation downstairs. It is a wonderful way to honor the history of the building.
In my next blog post, I will talk about how my family (and some friends!) have quite literally started to “pour our blood, sweat, and tears” into the demo process and beginning to transform this building. Including stepping on nails (ouch!), bumps, scratches, and working throughout the summer with no HVAC to cool the building.
PS–special thank you to everyone who has helped along this journey! It has given me a new appreciation for business owners and why it is important support local.
